Brazil Travel Guide

About Brazil

When most people think of Brazil, they envision beautiful beaches, charming world wonders, and an ice cold caipirinha. And while Brazil offers all of this lively and vivacious charm, there’s so much more waiting to be uncovered!

Brazil has so much to see, do, and eat. I spent a few days in Rio and had a TIME!

What to Expect

Language in Brazil
The official language is Portuguese and you should definitely learn a few words before arriving. If you speak Spanish there are some similarities, but it will still be a bit of a challenge. We knew very few words and it was tough to be honest but we made it through! Most restaurants do offer an English menu.

Currency
The official currency in Brazil is the Real. 1R = $0.19 USD. While credit cards are accepted in most places, it’s helpful to carry some cash for small vendors and markets.

Transportation
Ubers are accessible pretty much everywhere! We were able to take them without any issue and they were generally pretty cheap.

Safety
There is a lot of fearmongering when it comes to Brazil. While I will say you should be mindful of your belongings, it is no more dangerous than New York City or other US cities. Keep an eye on your money and do not pull out your phone in touristy areas. We did not go out in areas deemed β€œunsafe” and stayed within tourist regions for the most part but overall I did not feel in danger.
